# Welcome to the FW.VISION Insight Library We are a futures research firm with a *multipreneurial* approach to actualizing a sustainable future. Our process is to apply [[Futures Thinking]] mechanics to explore plausible future scenarios centered around various concepts, then think through pathways of plausible futures to arrive as some [[Preferred Futures]]. We call this *Actualizing the Future*, see the list of our [[Futures Research Ideas|researched and preferred futures]]. ### "APPPETITE" - Context for the Future We explore scenario with the multifaceted context surrounding it, in terms of * **Analogies** - A specific mapping between two or more concepts, to help contextualize understanding through a novel lens. * **Patterns** - Observations that we see time and time again, seemingly with an immutable quality. * **Practices** - What people and animals do to solve problems and achieve goals. * **Problems** - Repeatedly and urgently discussed, systemic, long-standing, and missions-critical societal challenges. * **Emergence** - aka "implications", 1st - 3rd order consequences of the explored scenario. * **Technologies** - Categorized into current, emerging, and hypothetical technologies, foundational enablers innovation. * **Indicators** - Qualitative and quantitative measures depicting the readiness and onset of scenarios futures. Relevant pursuits for research and venture initiatives towards preferred futures. * **Timeframe** - Past eras and meaningful time windows for engaging different modes of thinking in foresight. Typically 3-10 years, generational (10-30 years), two generations (30-50 years), and century. * **Events** - A collection of moments, defined as an item on critical path towards one or more futures trajectories. E.g., wildcard event denoting a branch of two scenarios; or transition point that differentiates eras. ## How to Navigate the Insight Library The pages on this site are organized as [[Networked Thoughts]], repurposed from the founder's digital garden. The interactive graph shows related notes, and a list of backlinks are referenced at the bottom of all notes. Here's an entity relationship diagram of the various topics are mapped. ![[foresight-innovation.PNG]] To start exploring, it is recommended to: * Browse [[Drivers and Signals|Drivers and Signals]], to explore our notes on the various patterns, practices, technologies, and analogies used to support [[Events and Scenarios|Events and Scenarios]], they also contain a list of curated references by the research team. * Take a look at [[Problems and Challenges/_Overview|Problems and Challenges]] to start with issues you care about, or get inspired with [[Future Artifacts/Future Artifacts|Futures Artifacts]]. * The list of [[Foresight Scopes|Research Initiatives]] outlines the type of preferred futures we're actively seeking to investigate, or [[Venture Initiatives/_Overview|Venture Initiatives]] for project that have progressed beyond ideation. --- #### Relevant Resources * [Our methods | Problem Lab | University of Waterloo](https://uwaterloo.ca/problem-lab/students/our-methods) * [How to visualise futures studies concepts: Revision of the futures cone](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0016328722001240) ![[fw-vision-pub-logo.png|400]]
