# Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology
Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology is a pillar of my domains of study.
> *(Personal Statement | Note to Self)*
>
> The **practice of entrepreneurship** is the highest expression of ingenuity, as it involves the communication, manifestation, and actualization of the complex thoughts that created ingenuity, without being trapped by idealism.
>
> This entrepreneurship is my most refined medium in artistic expression, and I intend to apply it to solve the biggest problems affecting our planet today.
I try to organize practical applications of my understanding in [[Modern Entrepreneurship Toolkit (METK)]] on a continuous basis.
## What does Entrepreneurship mean to me
What is entrepreneurship? I believe that this is a concept that every business founder internalizes differently despite its working definitions in school or the dictionary. For example.
> **Entrepreneurship**. noun, uncountable
> the activity of making money by starting or running businesses, especially when this involves taking financial risks; the ability to do this
> [Oxford Dictionary](https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/entrepreneurship)
However, after a decade of working on new ventures, I have found my own working definition, one that aligns with my understanding, and how I practice entrepreneurship. ***Practice*** being the keyword; entrepreneurship is a learnable skill, it is something you do, it is an advanced form of intellectual output, it is a form of artistic expression and testament to our ingenuity.
A corollary is that, I do not believe owning a business or being a "Startup CEO" automatically makes someone an entrepreneur; because it ("entrepreneur") is not a job title, it is someone who practices entrepreneurship.
#### Progressions of Knowledge Application
I have mentioned some of these concepts in [[Levels of Understanding]], around this idea of the progression of knowledge and how it's effective used. It beings with a general awareness of a subject, into a academic study of the same subject to achieve [[Levels of Understanding#Conscious incompetence|conscious incompetence]]. Unfortunately, a lot of learning and practice ends there with the passing of some instituted examinations.
However, if we push further, something interesting happens: *sense-making*. This is where diverse learned concepts are connected and we make sense of the knowledge as a greater whole, generating new cognitive concepts, new ways to perceive, new thinking. *This is the raw material for ingenuity*. We also observe a sharp drop of population at this stage, in the forms of people we have an intuition about their brilliance, but no concrete output or impact of their making, let's call these folks the [[No-Output Philosophers (NOPs)]].
The foundational issue I have with NOPs, is that they engage in pure thought, and is satisfied with their own seeming ascension over the masses. While being ignorant about their inability to communicate, manifest, and actualize their thinking.
> What I argue for, is that the ability to communicate, manifest, and actualize one's thinking, to be a much more difficult and purposeful pursuit.
This ability has two levels, first is to *communicate* this raw ingenuity to others, i.e. [[Sensemaking and Intellectual Output]]. This communication bring the intangible creations of one's mind to the world, and is far more difficult than conceiving of the concepts to begin with. And mastery is gained when one can [[Levels of Understanding#Able to explain something using everyday language, to novices.|explain complex concepts simply]]. Those that achieve this are celebrated as *great thinkers and teachers*, they enable the our species to evolve in thought.
Relevant: [[2009 - Analogy as Core - Hofstadter (talk)]].
Second, and more difficult still, is *application*. Whereas concepts are not only communicated, but evaluated with the constraints of the world (physical, economical, cultural, etc.), and brought into life. *This is highest form of ingenuity, and [[The Art of Entrepreneurship]]*.
So with all that, I propose my working definition of entrepreneurship.
> **Entrepreneurship**. noun
> The practice of applying ingenuity, with scarce starting resources and complex socio-economic constraints, to ultimately create value in bettering the human condition.
